As I take you on a tour of the cabin your going to find that we have some ugly but necessary things in it! HA Today is going to be one of those days when you'll see this for yourself.
Right next to our little kitchen table you will see this UGLY piece. Now here's the "story" behind it....Because we spend to much time out at the cabin and because I have a crew that eats 24/7, we had to have something to cook and keep things cold. When Seth came home from college for the summer that little problem was taken care of. He brought his refrigerator and microwave from his dorm. It was either store them in a closet or put them to use. We decided on the latter.
Space, or lack of is really something there isn't in this small kitchen area. At first Keith was going put the refrig. in the bottom cabinets and set the microwave on the counter. We found out real fast if we did that there wouldn't be room for anything else. So, we drug out this horrible little cabinet that Keith had got for FREE when he bought some other things at an auction one time. My job was to try and make it blend in and look presentable...NOT an easy task!!!!
The first thing I did was to give it a good cleaning. I then brought out the same green paint I had painted the kitchen chairs with and started in. That poor thing took two coats and it still isn't anything to brag about. However, it does serve it's purpose and will stay there until we come up with something better.
On the bottom you will see a neat old dishpan that we just bought. I really like it and find it to be different than most my antique pans...This one is round and has handles! Fits in perfectly on this little shelf.
Well, another piece down, only a million more to go! HA Hugs, Sher

It's been a few days and at last I have time to start the tour of our little cabin. (Key word here is "little"!!!) Since there are so many things I want to explain to you, I have decided I'm just going to do little pieces of the cabin at each writing. Are you ready? Ok, let's open the door!
As you walk in the front door, if you look to your right (West) you will see our little eating area. Since the room is small we decided to use a small table and two chairs. This little table is a wonderful antique. I'm not sure you can tell by the picture but there is a small drawer in the front with glass knobs. (Ok, one knob is missing but there should be two!) If you pull this drawer open, you will find it's really a writing desk, complete with an ink well and place for your pencil. Really a neat buy for $40!
The two chairs were picked up at our local Sale Barn. They have a little Kansas history behind them as they were made right here in Kansas and have spent all of their lives up until the time we bought them in a local church. (I think we bought 20 of them that day!) Since the cabin is decorated in the Shabby Chic style, I painted them an old timey green. Keith and I both love the way they look.
The window you see behind the table is the one you see when you look at the front of our cabin. I didn't have a curtain for it so took an old lace table cloth I had paid twenty-five cents for and just draped it over two nails. I really liked the way it looked so decided to leave it.
Right now I just have a candle set in the middle but later on I'll change that to something antique. I have a wonderful antique biscuit jar I would love to put there but the little ones spending a lot of time out there, I'm afraid it would get broken.
Well, I guess that pretty well tells you about this area. Later on, I'll tell you about an another part of this room. Any questions? Have a great day! Hugs, Sher

In February of this year, Keith and I started another project for our farm. This one is a "Cabin" to hold all my over-flow of clutter and to give us somewhere to spend a night or two a month....You know, a vacation home so to speak! HA Never mind it's built right in our back yard on a piece of the Kansas prairie!
As with anything that we do around "Old Crow Farm", this too was designed around found and cheap objects. In fact, the whole house was designed around a load of wood that Keith bought at our local "Sale Barn" for a few dollars. I swear, you have never seen as much "figuring" as went in on that cabin to use all that wood! HA By the time we were done, we had used every last stick!
Unfortunately, there wasn't enough wood to do the whole thing so a lot of it had to be bought. This is where we started getting into trouble! We're not used to buying "new wood" so every time we came home from the lumber yard, it was major sticker shock!
Still though we pressed on and at last our cabin is up. Now you noticed I didn't say DONE, I said UP! There is still tons to do to it but the money has ran out so while waiting to find several things at auctions, flea markets and yard sales, this is as good as it gets.
This picture will show you the cabin as it looks today! The porch was made with all found things except for the tin on the roof...That we had to buy new. Would you believe all those spindles you see around it were bought BRAND NEW in a box for $5??? That has to be one of our better finds!
The window was an old one we had picked up at our local Sale Barn for a dollar and the shutters cost fifty cents. The old horse watering trough was bought and after a few well placed holes became a flower box for the west side of our steps. On the other side of the steps you will see an old rusty basket that I have filled with Hens and Chicks.~~~Those are planted in remembrance of my Grandma Croucher. How she would have loved this little cabin!!!
The furniture on the porch was bought from a yard sale. If memory serves me right I think it cost $50 but it also has a big table that we use in our cookout area. Later on I hope to find "old furniture" to use on the porch but for now we are using what we have. I can't tell you how peaceful and cool it is on that porch. We love to sit out there and chat the evenings away.
Ok, now you know what the outside looks like. Are you ready for a peek inside? If so, be sure and check back as I hope to start taking you on a tour within the next few days! Remember to post all you likes and dislikes as we are open to suggestions on how to make it more homey! Blessings, Sher

I certainly hadn't planned to start a new Blog! However, when I suddenly became unable to post pictures on my main one I decided I had to do something. Since my life here on the Kansas prairies revolves around things done on shoe-string budget, I decided a new Blog, with a new name was in order. On this blog you will see the things we do around Old Crow Farm and come to know us as a family.
As time goes by you'll see each and every inch of this old farm, our home, our outbuildings and all our flower gardens. As you read about the things we do, remember...Everything was done as we could afford it and with found objects.
So, check back often and if you have any questions, please be sure and e-mail me and I'll be happy to try and answer them! Blessings from Old Crow Farm and Sher
